Early Learning Development Program

Program Overview

The ECDE & Early Learning Development Program is designed to provide holistic, quality early childhood education for children aged 3–6 years in underserved communities across Machakos County. The program focuses on nurturing children’s cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development during their most critical learning years, while actively engaging parents, caregivers, and the wider community.

GCDI works with community ECDE centers, churches, schools, and local leaders to strengthen existing learning spaces and establish child-friendly environments that prepare children for a smooth transition into primary education.

Program Rationale (Why This Program Matters)

In many parts of Machakos County, children face challenges such as:

  • Limited access to quality ECDE centers

  • Inadequate learning materials

  • Overcrowded classrooms

  • Low parental awareness of early childhood development

  • Poor nutrition affecting learning ability

Research and experience show that investment in early childhood education produces lifelong benefits, including improved school performance, better health outcomes, and increased economic productivity. This program ensures that no child is left behind at the foundation stage.
